Other Mommy Opens at No. 1 With $27.5 Million as The Social Reckoning Lands at $5.3 Million
Universal's horror film beat forecasts of about $20 million, while Sony's Aaron Sorkin sequel came in below its $8 million projection and Verity fell 64%.

Jessica Chastain's horror film Other Mommy opened at No. 1 over the October 9-11 weekend with $27.5 million from 3,365 theaters, according to the weekend chart at The Numbers. Pre-weekend forecasts had put it at about $20 million, with Boxoffice Pro's panel expecting the low $20 millions at best, so the film cleared the high end of its range.
The Social Reckoning, the sequel to The Social Network, opened fifth with $5.33 million from 2,606 theaters. That is well under the roughly $8 million forecast that was circulating before the weekend, and it arrived with a 64% Rotten Tomatoes score against 96% for the original, as Deadline's preview noted.
Verity fell 64% in its second weekend to $11.48 million, taking its total to $53.9 million after two weekends. Resident Evil added $8.55 million (down 32%) for a $138.7 million total in its fourth weekend, and Heart of the Beast took $7.1 million (down 35%) for $49.7 million.
Digger, Tom Cruise's film, dropped 60% to $3.2 million and has $14.4 million in total after two weekends. Angel and the Badman opened ninth with $2.1 million. Further down the chart, The Odyssey rose 54% to $2 million from 560 theaters, lifting its total to $623 million.
These are the figures shown on The Numbers' chart on October 12 and may move when studios report actuals on Monday. We will update this page if they change.
